The Somerset Breakthrough group are just one of thirty-one groups run by volunteers from Aberdeen to Cornwall. There are also 12 local contacts from Tyne & Wear to Surrey. We all raise funds in various ways. 2002 saw our group holding a Guinness World Record attempt by Twisting on the beach, we are very pleased to say that we are now in the Guinness World Record Book 2004.
The Somerset Breakthrough Group's objective is to raise £1 for every Somerset woman. Even if you were born outside the county or have recently moved here, you will be counted, because, if you were diagnosed with breast cancer, you will be treated in Somerset. There are over 220,000 women over the age of 18 (source: 2000 census), so we aim to raise £220,000!
The Somerset group are delighted to announce that the Breast Cancer clinics will receive £20,000 each when we have achieved our aim.
From every £1 raised, Breakthrough will pass on 50p to be shared between the Taunton, Yeovil, Bath and Weston-Super-Mare breast care units. The remaining 50p will go towards fulfilling Breakthrough's vision of a future free from the fear of breast cancer. Three ladies in our group are still receiving treatment at two of these hospitals, so we are keen to continue to support them by making this donation.
To raise funds for our £1 campaign we want you to HAVE FUN DOING IT & please let us know details of your event so we can put it on our site and ensure your local press has details too.
